"Sunny? Sunny, where are you?" Marisol kneels at her tide pool and there's no orange, no five arms, just seaweed and a snail. Clue one, a shiny track across the weed, because sea stars walk on hundreds of tiny tube feet. Clue two, the gull up on the high rock, smashing a clam for breakfast, and the track keeps going past. Clue three, the water in the empty pool has gone warm as a bath. So which way did Sunny go: up to the hot sand, or down under the ledge where the deep pool stays cool? Your child picks. Two pauses: walk your fingers like a sea star, then choose the direction. Every fact spoken by a character and checked. Ends with Pinch still blaming the seagull.
